Pepper Spray Saftey Tips

wayspray2.jpgThere are many people who unbeknownst to themselves are allergic to pepper  spray. In fact there have been many unconfirmed cases of death due to such allergic reactions.  If such an occurance happens to you or someone near you, I recommend that you start by calling 911.

Be sure to not rub the afected area. As this can be difficult you may need to subdue to person who is affected. Rubbing the skin clean will not stop the pain. The victim is only sreading the inflammation.

Next apply an antidote. If an OC decontamination product is available apply to the affected area. If no antidote is available douse with milk. Or by flushing the affected area with lots and lots of water, one can usually cleanse the affected area in that manner.

Convenient Self Defense and Protection

It’s important to protect ourselves from those who would seek to do us harm, given the opportunity. Most would-be assailants are cowards by nature, and will only attack if the circumstances are right. We can do a lot to protect ourselves by observing safe practices, especially at night. The crime rate increases at night because darkness provides concealment for criminals, but it’s possible to protect ourselves with good judgment. For example, never walk alone at night, even if it’s just to the car from the office. Walk with a co-worker, a security guard, or even a local law enforcement officer. Avoid dangerous situations as well; don’t walk down a dark alley, or walk through a bad neighborhood if there is another way. It’s also a good to carry protection. Whether it’s concealed protection like a Mace keychain, or something a bit more obvious like a canister of pepper spray, the presence of such protection will make potential attackers think twice.

We’re all entitled to be able to defend ourselves against those who would seek to take away our freedoms. Carrying protection can also boost confidence, and ensure that fear doesn’t take over in a dangerous situation.

Concealed Protection in Pepper Spray

Depending on the size, a canister of pepper spray can be quite a clumsy object to carry around, and it can be even more difficult to use given a tense situation.  Keeping a large canister of pepper spray concealed in your coat, purse, or backpack can also take up a lot of room, especially for an object so seldom used.  Instead of carrying regular sized pepper spray, keep a pocket pepper spray concealed on your person.  These smaller canisters of pepper spray pack the same amount of power as a regular canister, but are available in a more functional size.  The only drawback to these smaller canisters is that they fire fewer bursts of pepper spray before becoming depleted.  But a single burst of pepper spray is enough to knock out an attacker, and having more is really only necessary for multiple uses.

All people living in an area with potential danger should carry a canister of pocket pepper spray for protection.  Pepper spray is one of the most reliable and humane ways to deter a potential attacker, and many attackers will be deterred by the presence of pepper spray alone.

Simple Concealed Protection

Simple Concealed Protection

When it comes to protecting yourself, it’s best to have concealed protection that is small and functional.  Having a huge bulky taser or stun gun in your purse can be a pain to carry around, in particular because it’s so seldom used.  Pepper spray is the most efficient protection to carry because it is small in size and easy to use.  In addition, smaller items for self protection like a pepper spray key chain can seem almost invisible.  Protection needs to be practical and functional, most of all.z

It’s also important to replace your pepper spray every few years.  Older canisters of pepper spray can have small leaks and lose their pressure over time.  There’s nothing more frightening than needing to use your pepper spray and having it not work.

Carrying Pepper Spray Conveniently

When it comes to wielding pepper spray, carrying around a huge spray can in your purse or handbag can be inconvenient, especially if you don’t have a lot of space.  There are a few convenient options for carrying pepper spray, most notable being keychain pepper spray and concealed pepper spray.  Keychain pepper spray is much more compact than the normal spray bottle, and it attaches to your keychain for easy access.  Pepper spray that has been concealed in a small object, like a lipstick container or even a pen can provide a short burst of pepper spray that will disorient a potential attacker.

No matter what you carry, if you live in an urban location or even if you’re forced to sometimes walk the streets at night, it’s important to have pepper spray or some method with which to protect yourself.  Remember too, the easiest way to avoid a dangerous situation is to take measure to prevent it!

Pepper Spray in Disguise

pepper spray key chain

Pepper sprays that appear to be something else are an ingenious invention that could buy you just the element of surprise you need when an attacker appears.

A pepper spray key chain is probably the most common camouflage, but there are also lipsticks, pens, pagers, and even a ring that can disguise your secret weapon.
